Femslash After Dark Dear Creator Letter
Jun. 27th, 2019 10:00 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi, and thanks for writing for me; I hope this letter is helpful if you find letters helpful, but if you prefer to go your own way, I'm very interested to see where that leads too (as long as it isn't into any of my DNWs, obviously). My AO3 name is weakinteraction - same as this dreamwidth.
General likes
Given the nature of the exchange, I've deliberately chosen pairings for this exchange where I'd be open to any possibility on the spectrum from happy smut to extremely fucked-up relationship to the pairing struggling together through an angsty dark scenario, and generally I've gone for things where they could go in any of those directions, depending on the point in canon you take it from, or various plausible AUs (or alternative routes in games, which I never know whether they really count as AUs or not). I've separated the more specific likes below into smut and dark but please don't take that as meaning that you can't combine the two if you want to. (The individual fandom prompts probably run slightly more towards the smut end of the spectrum, but that doesn't override what I'm saying here, it's just that I find I have more to say in that regard.) As noted in the DNWs, however, please no violent non-con -- however, coercion, manipulation, mind control, etc. are all fine in darker scenarios.
Likes for Art
I like art that portrays some particular moment, either before, during or after, and implies what's happened/going to happen. (On the "after" side of things, I do like characters looking as though they've very thoroughly enjoyed themselves.) I am particularly fond of characters looking at each other in meaningful ways. I'm also very keen on art portraying the characters in an AU scenario.
Likes for Fic
I am, to be honest, up for almost anything. I'm very happy with all sorts of formats, including first/second person as well as third, present tense as well as past, epistolatory fic, interactive fiction, etc. Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations.
Smut-oriented likes
If you're writing smut, I'm fine with it being as plotty as you like or out-and-out PWP, or anywhere in between. I like characters snatching moments for sex in the middle of adventures, or celebrating at the end of them, or anything else. If you're going down the smutty route, I am very happy with most kinks except for a few exceptions listed in the DNWs below (and things like Force Sex in SW or its equivalents elsewhere are very welcome too; given the nature of these canons, please don't feel restricted to relatively realistic sex). For kinks with a power differential, I have a very slight preference for the sub's point of view, but only a very slight one. In general, I like people having fun while they're having sex; it definitely doesn't have to be all serious all the time. Things going slightly wrong for comic effect is definitely good.
Dark-themes-oriented likes
I love a good apocalypse, characters banding together against the growing awfulness of the world around them or their relationships being frayed by the pressure. I love good (or quite-good) characters going bad (e.g. Jedi turning Dark Side) and dragging the ones they love down with them into a vortex of manipulation and coercion; I'm fine with the other person reacting in various ways to that -- clinging on to the hope that they can redeem their lover; losing their moral compass because they have it focused on the other person rather than the bigger picture, but having occasional moments of horrified clarity; or being fully seduced themselves.
DNWs
FWIW, I usually include character death on this list but haven't for for this exchange, as it seems a bit daft to suggest apocalypses/the reign of Evil Empress [X] and then say "but everyone must survive". However, I would prefer not to receive character death in a fic that wasn't deliberately going for being darkfic. (e.g. please don't have the characters in an otherwise fluffy fic get together because they met up again at the funeral of a teammate, or something.)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye
I love this game. I still get shivers every time the first fungus pops and the first interlude from the Book of Planet comes up when I start a playthrough. The "canon" story that comes out in the Datalinks quotes and wonders videos implies a war where the Gaians eventually completely overrun the Spartans with mind worms (and I would definitely be up for something along those lines). But each time you play a game you get a brand new history of planet, and I don't consider the "canon" version any more or less valid than any other possibility. So I'd also be up for something similar with the tables turned and Santiago winning, or a grand alliance between the Gaians and the Spartans, cemented by the union of the two leaders, or arguments in the planetary council leading to hatesex, or anything else that occurs to you.
Feel free to involve the Mind Worms or Planet more generally if you want.
Lady of the Shard
Acolyte/Old God, Acolyte/Old God/Radiant Goddess, Acolyte/Radiant Goddess, Old God/Radiant Goddess
I love the sort of slightly dreamy tone that permeates the story; I'm particularly fond of the way most of the art is usually very simple, almost stick-figure-y, but then the closer things get to the divine, the more detailed it becomes. All of the pairings have their own different dynamics but I think what unites them for me is this kind of feedback loop between the divine and the human; there's all sorts of interesting implications about the nature of belief buried in there, if you want to explore the more philosophical side of it. I'd be interested in pretty much anything and everything for any of these ships (and I am definitely OK with mind-control/reality-altering dub/noncon around the Old God.)
KotOR
General prompts for all of these: DS "AU" (or, y'know, just the DS ending with added shippiness).
Juhani/Revan
"I will be your doom." - threat or promise? Do they end up saving each other from the Dark Side, or falling together? Or is it even worse than that? (I have, in all seriousness, considered doing a playthrough where Revan romances Juhani, but then turns at the Temple roof, but finds that she can't fight Juhani and so leaves herself open to being chopped down, and taking that as being the ending rather than reloading, just because I think it would be a neat way of inverting Juhani's initial introduction.)
Bastila/Revan
What I find interesting about these two is their bond through Bastila having saved Revan's life, and how it pulls them together (against Bastila's better judgement given that she knows who Revan is all along, but also her devotion to Jedi beliefs about love being bad). And of course the mirroring of their arcs, with Bastila eventually going to the Dark Side as Revan did (but then coming back, if you play Light Side and choose the right dialogue options). Jennifer Hale's delivery of "I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice!" is quite something, so anything playing around with Dark Side Bastila (whether or not Revan also goes Dark Side) is very welcome.
Bastila/Juhani/Revan
To be honest, this is basically my default party for most of the game (unless my Revan is particularly short on skills, in which case Mission or T3 comes along), so it has kind of turned into an OT3 of mine by default. There's a lot of different directions you could take this, it seems to me: working through the rough edges of working together during the period covered by canon; LS post-canon based on the idea that they've all been through different redemption arcs; helping each other stay on the Light Side; or as noted above a post-canon DS take with Dark Lord Revan and her concubines. Or indeed anything else that inspires you.
Revan/Yuthura Ban
This could definitely run the gamut from Revan redeemed Yuthura through the power of love to Yuthura corrupting an innocent doesn't-know-who-she-is-yet Revan to post-Leviathan Revan reclaiming her place as Lord of the Sith, starting with the newly-promoted head of the Academy, or anywhere in between. Digging into Yuthura's backstory very much encouraged. (FWIW, I am very down with use of lekku during sex if you're going smutty.)
Exile/Visas
"My life is yours." But has Visas been saved by that, or has she just traded one Dark Lord for another? Visas bits I particularly like are her teaching Force Sight, everything that happens on the Ravager, and the quiet conversation before Malachor. Post-canon adventures (assuming Exile doesn't fulfil Kreia's prophecy of heading out to the Unknown Regions, or at least not immediately, or takes someone with her after all ...) also very welcome.
Classic Who
In general, if you want to AU and bring a non-companion on board the TARDIS that's always very welcome for the pairings for which that's relevant. (Also: yes, half of these pairings are drawn from the first 22-and-3/4 years of the show, and then the other half are all Ace/somebody. I do love Ace, but that doesn't mean I love the others less, I promise.)
Zoe/Isobel
They really do share some very femslashy moments in The Invasion, imo. (For what it's worth, I'm willing to wave my hands around a lot when it comes to what Zoe's canonical age may or may not be.) Something based around photography would be an obvious possibility. As would hurt/comfort during the Cyberman crisis. Or maybe an AU where Isobel comes on board the TARDIS.
Section Leader Shaw/Liz
This would have to be an AU, but it could go in multiple directions - Liz comes with the Doctor when he initially transfers across, or Section Leader Shaw escapes into the main universe, or anything else you can dream up. I can see both Lizes being intrigued by their alternate self, on various different levels - Section Leader Shaw definitely gets as close as we see to a normal emotional response when the Doctor talks to her about a scientific career, for example.
Romana I/Romana II
To be honest, for this pairing I'm basically imagining them snarking at each other (in the same way the Doctors and Masters do when they meet up) while running around being hypercompetent. But anything else you want to do with them would be great too. (I'm way behind on Big Finish Gallifrey overall but have heard the relevant series, if you want to incorporate anything from that.)
Nyssa/Tegan
The relationship between these two is horribly underexplored in canon, even by the standards of the time -- their first meeting takes place in the middle of a crowded scene and we don't hear anything they say ... but they're getting along like a house on fire straight afterwards; they both have very personal reasons to despise the Master (especially Nyssa, since he's stolen her father's body and destroyed her entire planet, but murdering Auntie Vanessa must be significant for Tegan too), but every time he turns up during their run they just treat him as a generic recurring villain; almost immediately after they've met him the Doctor regnerates; and so on and so on. As such they definitely have the potential for wallowing in angst (as well as the aforementioned, there's Tegan's experiences with the Mara, and so on and so forth) but their interactions in canon (which generally ignores all those things) definitely lend themselves more towards fun fluffy romance.
Mel/Ace
In their brief interaction in Dragonfire, they go very rapidly from antagonistic to friendly; perhaps a missing scene filling in what happened while they were waiting around to change? Otherwise, an AU where Mel doesn't leave when Ace comes on board the TARDIS, or something where they end up meeting up again later on would be great. They've both been caught in parallel universe shenanigans in the off-screen material; something playing around with multiple versions of them would be awesome.
Ace/Susan Q
Lots of different directions this could go: Susan having Ace temporarily at her mercy (and forcing her to be "happy"?), working together to rebel against the regime, Ace coming back to see how things are getting on on Terra Alpha after the regime change (either with or without the Doctor; I am very happy with either NA Ace, BF Ace, or the broad fanonical eventually-becomes-an-independent-time-traveller Ace characterisation that draws from those and other sources).
Ace/Nemesis Statue
Ace's fascination with the statue because of its destructive potential is a very nice bit of characterisation, and I can totally see the statue being the sort of weapon that wants to be wielded, if that makes sense. Linking to wider canon (from any era) about early-Gallifreyan weapons systems very welcome if you want to go down that road.
Ace/Shuo Yuing
Again, lots of possible different directions for this. Battlefield is one of the very few stories that shows the Doctor willingly sticking around after the adventure is concluded, so there's ample opportunity for some victory celebrations. Alternatively, a darker take where Morgaine's turning them against each other works better? (And perhaps leads to mind-controlled hatesex?)
Ace/Gwendoline
My very most favourite bit of all with these two is the crossdressing, but every moment they're on screen together is great. For a darker AU take, Ace falling under the spell of what's going on in Gabriel Chase more fully? (Despite/because of her history with the place? Or Light detecting her as something like a new species because of the changes that have happened to her since becoming a companion? Given the way they were planning to write her out if they'd carried on making the show, that seems eminently plausible.)
Karra (Doctor Who)/Ace McShane
"How fast can you run, sister?" I have to admit that part of the reason I like this particular ship is that it's Lisa Bowerman, so there's a kind of bonus Ace and Benny aspect to it. But in general Survival is one of my favourite stories (I'm particularly intrigued by what Rona Munro's original draft must have been like, if this is the subtext-toned-down version); I'd definitely be up for something from Ace's perspective as she experiences the pull of the Cheetah planet and eventually reconciles the different sides of her nature, etc. Or you could full canon-divergent AU and have Ace succumb more fully (and maybe that motivates the Doctor to find a way to stop the Cheetah planet tearing itself apart, or something? And you end up with a highly dysfunctional TARDIS family of the Doctor, the Master, Ace and Karra?)
DWM Eight comics
Izzy Sinclair/Fey Truscott-Sade
I love the development of Izzy and Fey's relationship, from Izzy's crush on her in Tooth and Claw to their kiss at the end of Oblivion. I could definitely go for some pining on Izzy's end set in between those two points. On the other hand, fic with them meeting up later on would also be good; I can see Fey getting wrapped up in the Time War and ending up being sent all over time and space (especially since in the comics it's already Matrix!Rassilon in charge of this sort of thing).
Destrii (Doctor Who)/Izzy Sinclair
I'm intrigued by everything that happened between Destrii and Izzy; they spend a lot of time bodyswapped and then when they swap back basically see into each other's minds, and it seems to me that they should develop a good understanding of one another. However, it would be natural for Izzy to distrust Destrii -- I imagine them meeting again when Destrii is a companion, and Izzy being surprised that the Doctor's got her on board the TARDIS, but accepting that that must mean she's undergone some sort of personal growth. Or maybe during whatever we didn't see between the end of the comics and ... well, I guess Night of the Doctor, in current continuity, Eight leaves Destrii behind on Earth and Izzy helps her build a new life.
Buffy comics
Buffy/Satsu
I was shipping this from basically their very first interaction, and completely sold at "Cinammon?", so I was delighted when issue #12 happened. Feel free to go for an AU where they got into more of a long-term relationship (even if just a long-term FWB arrangement), or do future fic where they eventually get together. Smut-wise, I'm very into superpowered sex/unnatural endurance/etc. for Slayer/Slayer. Or on the darker side of things (with or without smut), an AU where they end up as all-out enemies? (Satsu turned by Simone?)
Disney Fairies
General prompt for either/both ships: On the dark side, dystopian/apocalyptic AUs where the big crises don't get fixed. What if Pixie Hollow stayed frozen at the end of Secret of the Wings? What if Hook had made it to the mainland with his frigate that flies in Pirate Fairy? What if Gruff hadn't been able to save them from the storm in Neverbeast? Smut-wise, wing kink very welcome, particularly if it's focused on how delicate they are.
Tink/Vidia
I see this very much in a rivals-to-lovers-to-friends way, if that makes sense; I can readily imagine them repeatedly hooking up when sparks fly and then gradually mellowing out towards each other as a result. Snark is definitely a bonus here. (There's a big shift in Vidia's attitude towards Tink at the end of Great Fairy Rescue which I take as being the start of them being together in some way, though I also tend to imagine that they never quite manage to define their relationship, they kind of keep hooking up and it releases the tension between them but they're not comfortable going further than that.)
Fawn/Nyx
These two similarly have an initially adversarial relationship, though in their case much more to do with having different opinions on the right thing to do rather than the sort of snark that characterises Tink/Vidia. I imagine these two in terms of Nyx being extremely apologetic after the events of Neverbeast, and Fawn grieving for the fact that she'll never see Gruff again, but Nyx is somehow easier to talk to about it than her friends.
Bad Blood
As a general note, I'm very into the cyborg aspects of Catastrophe's rebuilding, if you're so inclined. Worldbuilding around what the heck's going on in the video more than welcome as well.
Arsyn/Catastrophe
For these two, I'm happy with either pre-canon when they're on the same side, or post-canon -- either one of them successfully captures the other after the final battle, or it isn't as conclusive as all that and they fall into an enemies-with-benefits situation as they continue to fight across the city/world(/solar system? we don't really know how far in the future this is ...).
Catastrophe/Everyone
I can see this in lots of different ways: happy-ish welcome-back-to-life stuff once she's rebuilt; or Catastrophe hooking up with all of her colleagues in turn, desperately trying to make herself feel something in her new body; rituals within the organisation involving compulsory gangbangs; or indeed anything else that occurs to you.
Ready for It - Taylor Swift (Music Video)
Hooded Cyborg/Naked Cyborg
I'm very much open to worldbuilding in general about the cyborg dystopia implied in the video, but some sort of exploration of this or some other encounter between the two Taylors very welcome. I really love the way everything transforms when it gets to the "in the middle of the night, in my dreams ..." bits. Smut-wise, use and abuse of shapeshifting powers very welcome (Naked Cyborg has a tentacle form, just saying ...). And there are a lot of open questions left by the end of the video: Why is the naked one in the cage? Are they on opposing sides of some conflict? Is this some sort of upgrade? Do they share some sort of computerised dreams? What's going to happen next?
The World is Not Enough - Garbage (Music Video)
group: Singer/Robot Doppelganger
Obviously this needs a bit of an AU approach. (Well, I suppose you could stay within the confines of "canon" with the Doppelganger's POV, if her perceptions run at 1000x human speed or something ...) When they first meet, Singer seems somewhat fearful (justifiably, given what's about to happen), but not really all that surprised ... How much does she know? Or is this just happening in a setting where there are robot doubles all over the place? Who made the Doppelganger and why? It also seems to me that we never actually see the bomb she seems to contain go off; what if things are more complicated than they seem?

DNWs
- character or ship bashing (in particular, where there are conflicting canon ships for these characters, quietly ignoring them/AU-ing them away/handwaving everyone as being happily poly are all far preferable to me to devoting large chunks of the fic to demonstrating that the canon love interest is The Worst and breaking them up; I would also prefer it if you avoid characters in the ship comparing themselves to canon love interests, either favourably or unfavourably)
- non-canon-divergent AUs like coffee shops, A/B/O, etc. (canon-divergent ones, on the other hand, are a big yes as mentioned above, and I'm OK with mundane-style AUs if they do actually exist in canon -- e.g. the Normal Again universe from Buffy)
- pregnancy/kidfic
- watersports/scat/emetophilia/bloodplay/breathplay/vore
- violent non-con (coercion/mind control/etc. are fine)
- incest
- underage (which I define as people under 16 having sex)
FWIW, I usually include character death on this list but haven't for for this exchange, as it seems a bit daft to suggest apocalypses/the reign of Evil Empress [X] and then say "but everyone must survive".
