Trick or Treat 2018 Dear Creator Letter
Sep. 18th, 2018 08:05 pmVery excited for another go round of Trick or Treat; life got away from me in September and I've ended up signing up at the very last minute, so this is even more of a Frankenstein's monster stitched together from previous letters than usual, sorry about that. But things are definitely going to be easier come October so I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this exchange come the creating phase.
My AO3 name is weakinteraction -- exactly the same as this dreamwidth -- and for all these fandoms, I'm requesting both fic and art and both tricks and treats.
General likes
I am up for a wide range of types of fanworks, and equally happy with ratings anywhere on the scale.
I genuinely do equally like all of gen, slash, het and femslash. On the shipping side of things, I have noted the ships I particularly ship where they exist, but I don't really have NOTPs in any of these fandoms, so any combination of characters that you're interested in is absolutely fine with me, and I don't have any objection to requested and/or unrequested characters in background pairings. (As a general note, I am more than happy to handwave that Everyone Is Bi And Poly for the purposes of fanworks.)
Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs (possibly particularly relevant to this exchange: apocalypses where some key event in canon didn't go the right way), people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations. Many (but not quite all) of my favourite characters share traits of being competent and getting on with their jobs/vocations/whatever, particularly in the sense of Doing The Right Thing over their strong personal preferences to do the opposite and/or against a general angsty background.
Fic likes: Overall, I am honestly very easy to please; I genuinely like pretty much all types of fic, from humorous vignettes, to angsty introspection, to twisty plotty adventure stories, casefic, slice of life, or digging into the canon's worldbuilding, and all points in between. I do want to make a positive point of the fact that fic-wise I'm always up for non-standard formats, anything from epistolary or verse through to stories presented through documentary evidence, 1st/2nd person, present/future tense, IF, etc. etc. Again, if it works for what you want to do, I'll lap it up. (This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading third person, past tense, because I definitely do! I just don't want you to be put off doing other things if your inspiration takes you in that direction.) If you're going down the worldbuilding route, do feel free to include no characters whatsoever.
Art likes: I do like use of light and shade in a picture, and interesting Easter-egg-y type stuff going on in the background (if there is one). An action scene that's a snapshot from an adventure, the characters in the middle of kicking ass. Goofy hijinks when the characters are off-duty. Portrayals of canon-divergent AU versions of the characters very, very welcome if the inspiration strikes you (eg: Aphra and Sana facing off with lightsabers in Jedi training, Squirrel Girl: Agent of SHIELD, etc.). For shippier stuff, little moments of intimacy: stolen kisses, hurt/comfort type stuff (but please not too much on the hurt front), that sort of thing. (I have no problem receiving NSFW art, fwiw.) I am also definitely up for things like diagrams, maps, etc. In the same Easter-egg-y vein mentioned earlier, things like that presented with in-universe trappings would be lovely. I've provided some specific art prompts where I can think of them, but in cases where I haven't I hope at least some of my more general prompts lend themselves to being illustrated.
DNWs
(NB My ToT DNW list is not always exactly the same as my "usual" DNW list because of the "trick" aspect. I also don't mind if my gift has elements of both trick and treat.)
Requested characters: Nancy Whitehead, Doreen Green, Heather Douglas, Phyla-Vell
General Notes: These obviously split into two pairs of characters (both of which I ship) so I've prompted accordingly, but if you do feel inspired to have them all meet then don't hold back. In general, I am fine with you including other characters from their corner of Marvel (e.g. Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi for Nancy and Doreen, the other Guardians for Heather and Phyla), and also very much in favour of randomly bringing in whoever your favourite other Marvel characters are; I may not follow all of their books religiously but I'm vaguely aware of most of what's going on and if you do hit something that I'm unfamiliar with, you'll probably just be introducing to my newest fave.
Tricks: Various supernatural beings are canon in Marvel, so an encounter with one or more of those. How does Nancy cope if Doreen turns out not to be available? On the Phyla and/or Heather side, there's all the Oblivion, Dragon of the Moon, etc. stuff to mine for cosmic scale angst.
Treats: Shipfic of any flavour for Nancy/Doreen or Heather/Phyla. What do Nancy and Doreen get up to on Hallowe'en? (Is there Space Hallowe'en for Heather and Phyla? How do they feel about it when they've faced off against actual cosmic horrors?) Fix it fic for Heather/Phyla.
Requested characters: Chelli Lona Aphra, Sana Starros, 0-0-0, BT-1, Queen Trios, Magna Tolvan
General Notes: Out of these characters, I particularly ship Aphra/Sana and Aphra/Tolvan (and am interested in the idea of Aphra/Sana/Tolvan, too!). Also very open to worldbuilding, especially on the Shu-Torun side of things.
Tricks: Scratch the surface of anything in Star Wars and there's darkness there, so: angsty backstory, for pretty much anyone. Triple Zero and BT-1 causing mayhem. The brutality of life on Shu-Torun, only barely masked by the exaggerated civility. Day to day life in the Rebel Alliance for Sana/in the Empire for Tolvan. Aphra's definitely encountered a few situations that lend themselves to tricks, e.g. Rur. Ancient cosmic horrors and/or giant monsters in general.
Treats: Canon-typical adventures. (Though given what I said about scratching the surface, these could quite possibly be tricks, too, I guess.) Trios navigating life in the New Republic rather than under the Empire -- does much really change? Heist/con type shenanigans with any combination Aphra, Sana, Tolvan and the droids. (Maybe trying to steal something from Shu-Torun, why not?) Aphra/Sana get back together (probably messily). Aphra/Tolvan manage to carve out some sort of life for themselves. Aphra/Sana/Tolvan come to a complicated compromise.
Requested characters: Deirdre Skye, Corazon Santiago, Planet
General Notes: I do ship Deirdre/Corazon hard, but I'm equally open to non-ship-fic about each of them separately or both of them platonically together learning to get to grips with life on Planet. (Also: I am extremely agnostic about Alien Crossfire; feel free to do any of ignore it, incorporate it, or borrow some elements from it while ignoring others completely.)
Tricks: Mind worms. Nerve stapling. Punishment spheres. Genejack factories. The Dream Twister. (+ Any others of the many creepy/scary things which are selectable in game as units/actions/buildings. I do kind of love that the game mechanics make it entirely possible to lead humanity into a crapsack future and make it a possible path to victory, even though in my actual gameplay this actually comes out as [Leader] Would Never and deciding not to build them. Well, except the mind worms. They're just misunderstood.)
Treats: Planet's long dream before the earth$LEADER_NAME people arrived. Telepathic communion (with other humans and/or Planet). Beautiful sights no one who stayed behind on Earth ever got to see. Transcendence. ... One last night of the human experience before Transcendence.

Requested characters: Maggie, Luke, Claire, Lucy
General Notes: I love the fun tone of this canon, and especially the way that Everything Is True in relation to vampires. The way it makes you inhabit Lucy's relationship dynamics works really nicely for me, too, with her feelings becoming clear in the slight disconnect between the player and her, with her occasionally resisting/outright refusing to use certain options.
Tricks: More vampire hunting shenanigans for Lucy, Maggie and Luke. The game portrays an atypical experience, what does a more typical one look like? Exactly how bad at it were they when they first got started? Or do they find themselves having to deal with other supernatural creatures, and having to learn a bunch of new lore?
Treats: Lucy/Maggie/Luke OT3 (it's never quite made explicit in the game that that's what's going on, as far as I can tell, but it seems pretty heavily implied to me), or any subpairing of that. Claire going to find Lucy, as implied by the extra ending.
Requested characters: Rick Dagless, Thornton Reed, Lucien Sanchez, Liz Asher
General Notes: I nominated the show-within-the-show characters, but am equally happy to receive something mostly involving the behind the scenes characters, or something that mixes the two together as the show itself did. This is a fandom where I'd definitely be up for experimentation with the format, for what it's worth. For example: write in Garth's style, do a piece from one of those '90s cult magazines about this "lost horror classic", invent the internal C4 memos about the cancellation of it, or a movie poster from an AU where it was successful and had a theatrically released spinoff, etc.
Tricks: Canon-typical bad horror. Or spooky goings on behind the scenes: how does Garth deal with the supernatural when it seems to be happening to him in real life? A sketch of a planned monster costume (with Garth's annotations all over it?). What happened to Madeleine?
Treats: Canon-typical bad humour. Did anything come of the cast being reunited for the commentaries? One thing leads to another at a wrap party (between any pair or more of the characters, tbh). What if Garth paid the bills by also churning out romance novels under an unsubtle pen name?
Requested characters: Tink, Vidia, Zarina, Fawn, Nyx
General Notes: I have quite a few ships here, for what it's worth: I ship Tink/Vidia in a rivals-to-lovers kind of way. (There's a big shift in Vidia's attitude towards Tink at the end of Great Fairy Rescue which I take as being the start of them being together in some way, though I also tend to imagine that they never quite manage to define their relationship, they kind of keep hooking up and it releases the tension between them but they're not comfortable going further than that.) I ship Fawn/Nyx in a very similar way, and generally headcanon Nyx feeling regret over misunderstanding Gruff so badly and ending up being the only one Fawn can really talk to about it. And I ship Tink/Zarina in a kindred-spirits way, with their curiosity and challenging the traditions of Pixie Hollow.
Tricks: Dystopian/apocalyptic AUs where the big crises don't get fixed. What if Pixie Hollow stayed frozen at the end of Secret of the Wings? What if Hook had made it to the mainland with his frigate that flies in Pirate Fairy? What if Gruff hadn't been able to save them from the storm in Neverbeast?
Treats: Anything fluffy about day-to-day life in Pixie Hollow would be great. (Random overly specific example: Zarina is asked to make the first Moonstone sceptre for the Alchemists' Guild.) Alternatively, I'd be fascinated if you want to poke at the worldbuilding: in particular, we see what happens to baby's laughs in the Victorian/Edwardian-ish present day of the films, but how did Pixie Hollow get established when babies first started to laugh? (Is Queen Clarion the very first fairy? Or did she have predecessors? etc.)
My AO3 name is weakinteraction -- exactly the same as this dreamwidth -- and for all these fandoms, I'm requesting both fic and art and both tricks and treats.

DNWs
(NB My ToT DNW list is not always exactly the same as my "usual" DNW list because of the "trick" aspect. I also don't mind if my gift has elements of both trick and treat.)
- character bashing (in all of the canons I've requested, I like all the non-requested characters too, or at least am interested in nuanced takes on their being utter shits)
- any kind of AU apart from canon-divergent
- pregnancy/kidfic (I don't mind occasional appearances by canonical children, but please don't focus on them to the exclusion of all else)
- violent non-con (I'm fine with sf/fantasy type noncon like mind control for pairings it would suit, or dubcon of various stripes)
- as far as porn goes, I am generally fine with most stuff; the only things I'd ask you to avoid are breathplay, watersports, bloodplay, vore, scat, and emetophilia.
- incest
- under-16s having sex (to me this is "Underage", but I'm aware that my definition doesn't line up with AO3's)
