Femslashex 2018 Dear Creator Letter
Aug. 11th, 2018 11:00 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi! Thanks for creating for me.
My username on AO3 is exactly the same as here on dreamwidth -- weakinteraction -- and for all of these fandoms I'm requesting fic, art or vids (though I do realise that for some of them, vidding might not be a very realistic prospect ...). I will freely admit up front that this letter is almost entirely cut and paste from previous ones; I've tried to edit out anything not femslashex-relevant but I might well have missed a few bits here and there.
General Likes
I will be genuinely delighted to receive anything from a very wide range of different types of fanworks, and am equally happy with ratings anywhere on the scale.
Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations. Many (but not quite all) of my favourite characters share traits of being competent and getting on with their jobs/vocations/whatever, particularly in the sense of Doing The Right Thing over their strong personal preferences to do the opposite and/or against a general angsty background.
Fic likes: Overall, I am honestly very easy to please; I genuinely like pretty much all types of fic, from humorous vignettes, to angsty introspection, to twisty plotty adventure stories, casefic, slice of life, and all points in between. I do want to make a positive point of the fact that fic-wise I'm always up for non-standard formats, anything from epistolatory or verse through to stories presented through documentary evidence, 1st/2nd person, present/future tense, IF, etc. etc. Again, if it works for what you want to do, I'll lap it up. (This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading third person, past tense, because I definitely do! I just don't want you to be put off doing other things if your inspiration takes you in that direction.)
Art likes: I do like use of light and shade in a picture, and interesting Easter-egg-y type stuff going on in the background (if there is one). I like little moments of intimacy: stolen kisses, hurt/comfort type stuff (but please not too much on the hurt front), that sort of thing. (I have no problem receiving NSFW art, fwiw.) But I'm also happy to see the characters in the ship in action rather than in an exclusively shippy context, if you feel that way inspired: an action scene that's a snapshot from an adventure, the characters in the middle of kicking ass (I'm particularly fond of having the two characters back-to-back in a versus the universe type way), goofy hijinks off-duty, etc. Portrayals of canon-divergent AU versions of the characters very, very welcome if the inspiration strikes you.
Vid likes: When it comes to vids I like interesting/surprising/amusing juxtapositions (either between one scene and the next or between what's happening and the music), and having fun with pacing (e.g. the cuts getting faster and faster towards the end before slowing down again). I am very broad-minded in my musical taste; I would much rather go with the music you think fits than have a vid shoehorned in to my favourite song if you're not feeling it. And to be honest, my "favourite song" is something which changes on about an hourly basis. That said, if you do want to know, the two places my music collection/Youtube playlist gravitates towards most strongly are British indie circa 1995-1997 (I hesitate to use the term "Britpop" but, yeah, basically Britpop) and 21st Century female singer-songwriters.
I do realise that most of my specific prompts tend to run more in the direction of things that would most readily be seen as fic ideas, but I'm hoping they will provide some sort of inspiration.
DNWs
Disney Fairies
Tink/Vidia
I see this very much in a rivals-to-lovers-to-friends way, if that makes sense; I can readily imagine them repeatedly hooking up when sparks fly and then gradually mellowing out towards each other as a result. (In canon, I think there's a definite transition in their relationship in Great Fairy Rescue.) Snark is definitely a bonus here.
Fawn/Nyx
These two similarly have an initially adversarial relationship, though in their case much more to do with having different opinions on the right thing to do rather than the sort of snark that characterises Tink/Vidia. I imagine these two in terms of Nyx being extremely apologetic after the events of Neverbeast, and Fawn grieving for the fact that she'll never see Gruff again, but Nyx is somehow easier to talk to about it than her friends.
Some prompts that could work for either ship: A visit to the Mainland. Dealing with yet another crisis in Pixie Hollow. Relaxing in Sunflower Meadow or somewhere. The use and abuse of Pixie Dust (feel free to have Zarina involved inventing brand new types; I like her, I just don't ship her with anyone particularly).
The World is Not Enough - Garbage (Music Video)
Singer/Robot Duplicate
Obviously this needs a bit of an AU approach. (Well, I suppose you could stay within the confines of "canon" with the robot's POV, if her perceptions run at 1000x human speed or something ...) DNW exception: I don't mind character death here, seeing as it's in the video to start with.
Prompts: what exactly is going on? (who made the duplicate and why? we never actually see the bomb she seems to contain go off; what if things are more complicated than they seem?) When they first meet, Singer seems somewhat fearful (justifiably, given what's about to happen), but not really all that surprised ... How much does she know? Or is this just happening in a setting where there are robot doubles all over the place?
Ready for It - Taylor Swift (Music Video)
Caged Cyborg/Hooded Cyborg
I'm very much open to worldbuilding in general about the cyborg dystopia implied in the video, but some sort of exploration of this or some other encounter between the two Taylors very welcome. I really love the way everything transforms when it gets to the "in the middle of the night, in my dreams ..." bits.
Prompts: Why is the naked one in the cage? Are they on opposing sides of some conflict? Is this some sort of upgrade? Do they share some sort of computerised dreams? What happens next. Backstory about how they came to exist. Use and abuse of shapeshifting powers.
Marvel 616
General note on this fandom: I am all for random appearances by other Marvel characters beyond the ones these characters regularly interact with, if you feel inclined to throw them in. I have probably at the very least encountered them in passing in one crossover or another.
Doreen Green/Nancy Whitehead
I love everything about Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: the little "alt-text" bits, the computer science nerdery, the explorations of obscure corners of the Marvel universe, Doreen's determined optimism about finding common ground with supervillains ... Anything that captures one or more of those aspects of canon would make me very happy.
Ship-wise, I have a fluctuating level of belief that canon might go there eventually (which reached a peak when Mole Man accused Nancy of being in love with Doreen, faded a little bit for a while, but is now back stronger than ever after Erica's final issue with the hypertime).
Prompts: Anything along the lines of canon shenanigans with a tiny extra bit of shippiness would be awesome. Nancy sometimes feels a bit left out without superpowers/is keen on the idea of having a robot body -- what if she gets either/both of those? Further exploration of the hypertime issue, either in terms of Doreen and Nancy's experience (I got an amazing fic of this for F5k, despite not having been able to request it at the time of sign ups for that exchange :D - but there are decades together to explore) or the consequences when they find the letter they wrote to themselves. And an exceptionally random crossover idea: if you know Ryan North's Dinosaur Comics, I would be very much up for the USG characters encountering T-Rex and co.
Heather Douglas/Phyla-Vell - I love the mid-noughties Cosmic Marvel stuff -- I especially like the way they tied together all the various different aliens from different Earth-based lines into a coherent sense of intergalactic politics. This pairing is certainly an obvious candidate for major angst given everything that happens to them during Annihilation and afterwards; I am really into all the weird cosmic end of things so if you want to explore what it means that Phyla becomes an avatar of Oblivion or Heather turning into a literal Dragon of the Moon, or such like, then go for it. Alternatively, there is that gap between before they get dragged into one crisis after another where they're basically on honeymoon, if you ask me. Feel free to have them visit some alien planet (either an existing one in the Marvel universe, one you made up yourself, or one that's mysteriously appeared from another canon of your choice), head to Earth for some reason, or whatever else.
Prompts: Adventures off in the universe somewhere (they're basically on honeymoon in that little gap before the start of Annihilation, IMO). Exploration of the ramifications of Phyla becoming an avatar of Oblivion and/or Heather turning into a literal Dragon of the Moon. Returning in the new multiverse. The adventures of their parallel universe selves as seen in that one panel in Infinity Countdown (they seemed a bit darker/at least more desperate to me).
My Star Wars requests would end up in three separate requests in most exchanges, and I've split this section up into the different chunks of canon for convenience.
SW - Marvel comics (specifically Aphra)
Aphra rapidly became my new Star Wars fave when I belatedly started reading the Darth Vader comics. I love how spiky she is, her hidden depths, her ability to bullshit her way through pretty much any situation, and her reluctant moments of something approaching morality.
Aphra/Tolvan
The canon enemies-to-lovers trajectory of this ship has been extremely pleasing to me, so anything that builds on that would be fantastic. My fave things about Tolvan are how ambiguous she seems to feel about almost everything (the Empire, Aphra, her cybernetics) and the fact that she's quietly a tactical genius.
Some prompts: Reluctant-to-not-so-reluctant team-up. One or other of them getting the upper hand (Tolvan blackmailing and/or capturing Aphra seems like a fairly obvious option, but I think Aphra's work with Vader must have given her some sort of insight into how to mess around with the Imperial hierarchy). Ending up on the run together. How they both adjust after RotJ. Some sort of exploration of Tolvan's backstory would be great too (especially why she has all those cybernetics, and I also love that she's a tactical genius; any sort of situation where she's using those skills would be fun).
Aphra/Sana
Give me them at each other's throats (in any sense). Give me them forced to work together and hating every minute of it. Give me backstory: their good times that were never really that good (or were they?). Give me bitterness and resentment and angst and betrayal and unhealthiness and obsession and all that good stuff.
Prompts: Aphra trying to puzzle out why Sana seems to have thrown her lot in with the Rebels. Sana realising that her feelings are more complicated than she wants to admit. Aphra trying to keep Sana secret from Vader (and maybe failing). Wagers and forfeits. Or if you're going into their backstory, any sort of smuggling/archaeological hijinks. (Aphra going playing in Legends worldbuilding is A-OK with me.) Were they always so hardbitten and cynical?
Aphra/Sana/Tolvan
I'll be honest, I hadn't considered this at all until I saw it in the tag set, but DO WANT. The emotional muddles they would get themselves into while all being badasses would be very satisfying.
Anything taking inspiration from the prompts for the two ships above would obviously be great, but more specifically for the OT3: Aphra needs both of their help, and cajoles them into working together, but not without difficulty. Some sort of situation where the local Rebellion and Empire forces have to uneasily work together for a limited time. Post-RotJ about how ex-Imperials reintegrate into the New Republic. Tolvan already knows Sana from tracking down smugglers in the past.
SW Sequel Trilogy (Rey-focused)
These are all Rey pairings, so i think I should set out my stall slightly: I came out of my very first viewing of TFA absolutely convinced Rey was gay (and shipping her with Jess as one of the only other female characters in the Resistance -- I'm too much of a Han/Leia shipper for Leia/Rey to be much of an option for me, and I do really, really like X-Wing pilot minor characters anyway).
On the other hand, I did think the canon Force Bond interactions with Kylo Ren in TLJ were very interesting, I just don't see Rey as interested from a romantic point of view. But please don't shy away from including that sort of thing if it's relevant. (This is by way of being a fandom-specific not-DNW, if that makes any sense at all.)
Jessika Pava/Rey
I would love anything for these two from sweet and fluffy to out-and-out PWP. Dynamics-wise, I like the idea of both of them being a bit surprised at being in this relationship, but liking it (Rey having never had any opportunity to even really consider romance while on Jakku, Jess having hero-worshipped Jedi as per "Weapon of a Jedi" and now finding that they are actually flesh-and-blood people after all, that sort of thing). Feel free to include other characters, especially from Black Squadron. I am very happy to buy into the idea that Black Squadron were all elsewhere during TLJ.
Prompts: bonding over fixing up spaceships, flight training/competing with each other (Jess teaches Rey to fly an X-Wing? They race the Falcon against Jess's X-Wing? etc.), mission fic (undercover?), taking time out if the latest Resistance base is on some nice planet without too many enormous predators around.
Devi/Rey
I really like the evolution of their relationship over Rey's section of Before the Awakening. The sense of the idea that no one on Jakku can trust each other, but they're starting to against their better judgement is really well done.
Prompts: Long cold desert nights during the fixing up of the ship. Taking off their layers of protection against the sand. Working together, their fingers brush together and then ... Running into each other again years later, when Rey's a Jedi and Devi's made something of herself (maybe she ends up going down a Lando-style route and finds herself in charge of somewhere?).
Phasma/Rey
Obviously this would pretty much have to be AU now (though something which posits Phasma somehow surviving TLJ would be cool). I am interested in a wide variety of scenarios here, but the one thing I wouldn't want is a "bad ending" for the Rey of the fic (which basically means loyal First Order Phasma capturing Resistance Rey, unless that leads to Rey somehow turning Phasma).
Prompts: Phasma has been a Resistance plant all along; Rey has to rescue her (possibly psychologically as well, in terms of how long she's been undercover). AU in which Rey is a member of the First Order (this could be a straightforward one-point-of-divergence thing, or some sort of role swap where Rey and Finn, or Rey and Kylo, or heck, even Rey and Hux, swap places). Forced to work together. Rey captures Phasma, or Phasma captures Rey, and it leads to Rey redeeming Phasma.
Rey/Original Female Character(s)
I am up for all sorts of possibilities here (including non-humans).
Prompts (aka ideas for who the ofc could be): a dignitary from a neutral planet that the Resistance needs something from, a newly awakened Jedi she's training (possibly feeling underqualified to do so?), a Resistance trooper/medic/technician/etc. But honestly, these are just some suggestions, go wild. (Original Terribly Misunderstood Sentient Female Tentacle Monster?)
Rey/Rose
DNW for this particular ship: Rey/Finn/Rose love triangle. In particular, although I haven't read the novelisation, it sounds like it does a number on Rose, turning her into a seething pit of jealousy; please steer clear of that characterisation.
Prompts: Bonding over mechanic-y stuff (... this may be a thing with my Rey ships! but there's bound to be stuff going wrong on the Falcon with that many people on board). Rey helps Rose deal with losing Paige (perhaps an interesting contrast with Rey's lack of a family, here?). Rose is in trouble and needs rescuing. Rose ends up being one of the few people who Rey can trust to be straight with her while everyone else is looking up to her as a Jedi.
SW Legends: Knights of the Old Republic
Yuthura Ban/Revan
I love Yuthura, and wish there was a lot more of her in the game. Feel free to explore her backstory if the fancy takes you. I am very much up for any and all possible takes on the dynamics of this ship: amnesiac Revan as eager student of the Dark Side, post-Leviathan Revan as reborn Sith Lord who Yuthura is the first to swear allegiance to, Revan (with memories or without) redeeming Yuthura (even better if Yuthura is simultaneously trying to corrupt Revan), etc.
Prompts: Redemption. Fall. Treachery and double crossing. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Revan trying to redeem Yuthura while Yuthura tries to corrupt Revan. Amnesiac Revan going to the Sith Academy on Korriban straight after the Jedi Academy on Dantooine to decide for herself who's got the right idea. Revan going to Korriban after the Leviathan (and no one believing her; I find that hilarious even if it was obviously to avoid them having to write huge amounts of new material).
Belaya/Juhani
Very strongly hinted at in canon though whether anything came of it while they were padawans is up to you, given the Jedi's restrictions on love.
Prompts: Long nights under the stars. Reunion after the end of the game (let's assume Belaya survived the bombardment of Dantooine somehow -- maybe she'd been sent on some other mission?). Or (since Belaya turns Dark Side and pops up on Korriban if you kill Juhani), an AU where they both fall together and become unstoppable. (Would Level-9-or-so Revan be able to take them both on in the grove? Seems unlikely as I regularly have to reload during that fight when it's just Juhani.)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye
General note: I am extremely agnostic about Alien Crossfire; feel free to do any of ignore it, incorporate it, or borrow some elements from it while ignoring others completely.
I love this game. I still get shivers every time the first fungus pops and the first interlude from the Book of Planet comes up when I start a playthrough. Anything at all that gets at the sense of the strangeness, difficulty but also beauty of life on a new planet would be very cool.
The "canon" story that comes out in the Datalinks quotes and wonders videos implies a war where the Gaians eventually completely overrun the Spartans with mind worms, and I would definitely be up for darkfic along those lines if the inspiration strikes you. In general, the screaming pain sphere thing that captured leaders get put in when you defeat a faction and all the "swear a pact to serve me" stuff if you let them capitulate has quite strong BDSM-y overtones to me.
Prompts: "Symbols are the key to telepathy." Arguments in the planetary council leading to a continued discussion (or "discussion") in private. "Very well, but you must swear a pact to serve me." Conquest victory: spoils of war. Economic victory: counting the cost. Diplomatic victory: embracing the new world leader. Transcendence victory: one last night of being human.
Revelation Space Series - Alastair Reynolds
Ana Khouri/Ilia Volyova
I really like all the layers of complication between them, and yet the mutual respect that underpins their relationship even when they're at daggers drawn.
Prompts: There's definite potential in all the training to do with the cache weapons, the shifting power balance between them as events happen throughout the story, and also the factors to do with being on the Nostalgia for Infinity together; the "office politics" for want of a better word within the small crew, the sense of having to rely on each other on some level because they're only one misstep from complete disaster.

DNWs
- character or ship bashing (in particular, where there are conflicting canon ships for these characters, quietly ignoring them/AU-ing them away/handwaving everyone as being happily poly are all far preferable to me to devoting large chunks of the fic to demonstrating that the canon love interest is The Worst and breaking them up)
- non-canon-divergent AUs like coffee shops, A/B/O, etc. (canon-divergent ones, on the other hand, are a big yes as mentioned above)
- pregnancy/kidfic
- watersports/scat/emetophilia/bloodplay/breathplay/vore
- violent non-con (coercion/mind control/etc. are fine)
- incest
- underage (which I define as people under 16 having sex)
