Femslash Exchange 2016 Dear Creator Letter
I am so unbelievably excited for this exchange this year, I cannot tell you, and have been ever since the awesome tag set started to take shape. Thank you so much for creating for me!
All my requests are for fic or art, and I'm open to any rating. This is a long letter I'm afraid, so I've made separate cuts for each fandom and have put together some internal links:
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
General likes:
I am, in general, up for any format, rating*, or genre. Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations. Many (but not quite all) of my favourite characters share traits of being competent and getting on with their jobs/vocations/whatever, particularly in the sense of Doing The Right Thing over their strong personal preferences to do the opposite and/or against a general angsty background. But I also like darker themes within relationships at times, and several of these requests do lend themselves in that direction in at least some versions of the canon universe (the potential for Star Wars characters to go Dark Side, the Mirror universe in Trek, a lot of WicDiv, and there's potential in SMAC too given the sorts of things that happen in that universe ...). For that sort of thing, I'm keen on people who find themselves in a bad situation gritting their teeth and getting on with it (I love apocalyptic AUs in particular) and messed-up power dynamics between characters (especially involving coercion that leads to eventual Stockholm syndrome type situations).
* If you are interested in going to the higher rating end of things, you might well find parts of my Smut Swap letter from earlier this year relevant.
General likes for art:
I do like use of light and shade in a picture, and interesting Easter-egg-y type stuff going on in the background (if there is one).
An action scene that's a snapshot from an adventure, the characters in the middle of kicking ass. Goofy hijinks when they're off-duty. Little moments of intimacy: stolen kisses, hurt/comfort type stuff (but please not too much on the hurt front), that sort of thing. And, er, I have no problem at all with NSFW art.
General likes for fic:
Overall, I am honestly very easy to please; I genuinely like pretty much all types of fic, from humorous vignettes, to angsty introspection, to twisty plotty adventure stories, and all points in between. If you're going down the smutty route, I am fine with most kinks except for a few exceptions listed in the DNWs below.
I do want to make a positive point of the fact that fic-wise I'm always up for non-standard formats, anything from epistolatory or verse through to stories presented through documentary evidence, 1st/2nd person, present/future tense, IF, etc. etc. Again, if it works for what you want to do, I'll lap it up. (This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading third person, past tense, because I definitely do! I just don't want you to be put off doing other things if your inspiration takes you in that direction.)
Absolute DNWs:
DNWs in non-dark scenarios:
(I am requesting several fandoms here where a dark take on the canon is a plausible option and would appeal to me, so instead of constantly noting exceptions to DNWs in the individual sections I'm trying to make it a bit more fine-grained by splitting up. In general, you can assume these are NOT DNWs unless I specifically say that I wouldn't like dark material for a particular fandom/pairing.)
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
Marvel 616
(As a sort of general prompt for all of these, I really liked the idea of the whole Secret Wars/Battleworld scenario last year, even if a lot of the stories that it was used for weren't exactly stellar. If you want to play around with alternate versions of these characters in one of the regions under God-Emperor Doom's regime, then go for it. Make them Thors, or agents of some variant of SHIELD, or trap them in one of the endless succession of crapsack X-Men timelines or whatever and I will be grinning.)
Doreen Green/Nancy Whitehead
(NB For this particular pairing, I would prefer not to receive darker material.)
I ship this so hard and am at least half-convinced canon is deliberately heading in the direction of a slow-burn "Nancy has a crush, Doreen is oblivious but then ..." storyline. I love everything about them, from their dorky roommate interactions to their CS knowledge saving the day to the way they cope with getting caught up in situations. Getting together or established relationship are equally fine with me. I wrote a bit here for Marvel is Marvel about what I like about Unbeatable Squirrel Girl in general, if it helps. I am up to date on canon and plan on remaining so.
Prompts: An encounter with any Marvel hero or villain you're keen on. Nancy gets superpowers and/or a robot body; how do they deal with that? Tippy Toe and the other squirrels get so fed up of watching them flail around each other that they engineer a get together. Nancy and Doreen looking back at their life together decades later.
Heather Douglas/Phyla-Vell
I love the mid-noughties Cosmic Marvel stuff -- I especially like the way they tied together all the various different aliens from different Earth-based lines into a coherent sense of intergalactic politics. This pairing is certainly an obvious candidate for major angst given everything that happens to them during Annihilation and afterwards; I am really into all the weird cosmic end of things so if you want to explore what it means that Phyla becomes an avatar of Oblivion or Heather turning into a literal Dragon of the Moon, or such like, then go for it. Alternatively, there is that gap between before they get dragged into one crisis after another where they're basically on honeymoon, if you ask me. Feel free to have them visit some alien planet (either an existing one in the Marvel universe, one you made up yourself, or one that's mysteriously appeared from another canon of your choice), head to Earth for some reason, or whatever else.
Prompts: Adventures off in the universe somewhere (they're basically on honeymoon in that little gap before the start of Annihilation, IMO). Exporation of the ramifications of Phyla becoming an avatar of Oblivion and/or Heather turning into a literal Dragon of the Moon. Fix-it where they return to the current Marvel universe (as noted above, I liked the idea of Battleworld: could this provide a crack in reality for them to get back in?).
Kate Bishop/America Chavez
I adore the Gillen/McKelvie Young Avengers run, and anything you want to bring in from that (or wider Marvel canon) would be great. I definitely see these two as the most level-headed and sensible of the team by quite a long way. My interest in this pairing in particular was sparked in large part by that scene where America tells Kate that she's not that straight because she's seen the way she looks at her. For what it's worth, I will admit that I'm not completely up to date on what Kate's been up to since, but I am reading Ultimates where America seems to be mostly hanging out. (And I have come across them in Choosing Sides too.)
Prompts: Bonding over complaining about cleaning up the messes of other members of the team/other heroes they have to work with. A follow up conversation to the "I've seen the way you look at me" bit. Other dimensions: America is basically a walking excuse to play with canon-divergent AUs. (There's a lovely bit in the Choosing Sides that covers Rhodey's funeral where America takes Kate to see other Rhodeys still alive in other dimensions, and Kate asks if that's how she perceives everyone: definitely potential there for exploring what America's perspective means for relationships.) And America's home dimension seems really interesting, something about her background would be great.
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
The Wicked + The Divine
For all the characters, I've stuck with the names they have when we first meet them in canon for avoidance of a massive string of pipes but I'm equally open to gods or their previous mortal selves in all cases. For what it's worth: I am up to date with the single issues, and if you are too and want to write stuff rampantly speculating about the consequences of the end of Rising Action, then go for it. Or (especially for the Lucifer prompts) feel free to do something set earlier on, or a canon-divergent AU where everything's slightly less tragic. Or slightly more tragic, if you really want.
I'm really fascinated by the worldbuilding in this fandom, if you want to dig into that along with the shippiness. In fact, general prompt for all of these if you're into history: the pairing of your choice as it went down in some previous recurrence.
Cassandra/Laura
I really enjoy the several distinct stages their relationship goes through in the course of canon so far: the mutual distrust that mellows into a kind of "in this together but not sure we trust each other" thing, and then of course everything that happens once Cass and then Laura become gods.
Prompts: Research (or "research"). Trying to outsnark each other. Exploration of their god powers, whatever they are (I feel like canon hasn't really explained the consequences of either Urdr's ability to read the past or whatever being Persephone means yet), and the interactions between them.
Lucifer/Cassandra
This is definitely more of an antagonistic one but do they do spark off each other very well in their encounters in canon. (And would require at least a certain amount of AU to make work, I think.)
Prompts: Not backing down from a fight. Seeing right through each other. What did Cassandra have to do to get access in the first place?
Lucifer/Laura
The canon relationship between these two powers the first arc, basically, doesn't it? So that, only more so.
Prompts: #1 fan. Secrets and lies. What if Lucifer hadn't been lying and she could turn Laura into a demon?
Lucifer/Sakhmet
Slightly surprisingly, the only one of these that definitely canonically happened.
Prompts: Teasing. "We've all seen the photos." How does Sakhmet's frequent role as one of Ananke's enforcers interact with Lucifer's rebellious nature? (There must have been times when Sakhmet got sent to go and chase Luci down, I would think.)
Morrigan/Laura
The key scene for me with these two remains when Laura runs down into the Underground to summon Morrigan. For this one, if you want to, you should definitely feel free to bring in Baphomet in any capacity that suits, though I'd prefer the overall focus to remain on the two women.
Prompts: I am very into Morrigan's three-in-one-ness, if you want to explore that in some way. (Could apply to the next pairing too.) The collision between different underworld/death mythologies. Consequences.
Morrigan/Sakhmet
We mostly see these two interact when Morrigan's locked up during the Commercial Suicide arc, but they were both in god mode before canon started so there's room (And, as always, there's the possibility of AU.)
Prompts: Cats and birds. Attempts to wheedle out of imprisonment. Struggling for the upper hand (verbally or otherwise).
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
Star Wars
The first pairing here is from TFA; everything else is from the Knights of the Old Republic games. I am up for whatever interpretation of how the game might have played out that you want to go for, including going fully down the Dark Side route if that's the way inspiration takes you -- I have played both of them far too many times with different alignments/character motivations I was RPing in my head even though none of the dialogue choices quite fit/etc.. On the other hand, it should hopefully be obvious that for this exchange I'm thinking of the player characters as female. Also, feel free to strategically ignore anything a later game says about an earlier one (i.e. don't take KotOR 2 as gospel on what happened next if you're writing about the KotOR 1 characters, and feel free to ignore the MMORPG entirely -- I haven't played it, though I have no objection if you do want to incorporate elements from it).
A slightly random general note: for some reason, I am really, really into the whole ritual of crafting a new lightsaber; if you want to have Jedi characters doing that, or just lovingly describe the end results of the process, I will eat it up with a spoon.
Jessika Pava/Rey
(NB For this pairing, I would prefer not to receive darker material.)
I would love anything for these two from sweet and fluffy to out-and-out PWP. Dynamics-wise, I like the idea of both of them being a bit surprised at being in this relationship, but liking it (Rey having never had any opportunity to even really consider romance before now, Jess having hero-worshipped Jedi and now finding that they are actually flesh-and-blood people after all, that sort of thing). I love the wider world of TFA, so feel free to include other Resistance characters as allies or First Order types as antagonists (giving Jess a rematch with Terex from the Poe Dameron comic is A-OK with me, if that's something you've been reading).
Prompts: Bonding over their mechanical/piloting skills. Space adventures/mission fic (undercover, maybe?). Managing to find some breathing space for some shore leave/other type of down time.
Revan/Bastila
What I find interesting about these two is their bond through Bastila having saved Revan's life, and how it pulls them together (against Bastila's better judgement given that she knows who Revan is all along, but also her devotion to Jedi beliefs about love being bad). And of course the mirroring of their arcs, with Bastila eventually going to the Dark Side as Revan did (but then coming back, if you play Light Side and choose the right dialogue options).
Prompts: Force bonds. Victory celebrations. "I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice!"
Revan/Juhani
There's a similar mirroring thing going on here, given that Revan initially meets Juhani when the Council are trying to make a point to her about the dangers of the Dark Side. However, there's also history given the revelation that it was Revan, on the way through Taris, who inspired Juhani to become a Jedi in the first place.
Prompts: Helping each other stay on the Light Side. Post-canon mission fic. Dark Side Revan turns Juhani at the Temple instead of killing her. And an oddly specific one: on my most recent playthrough, I managed to get some shippy dialogue (by the standards of what Bioware managed to sneak in) with Juhani on board the Ebon Hawk towards the very end of the game that I'm fairly sure I've never seen before. However, despite having played my conversation choices just right in that regard, somehow along the way I messed up several important other conversations that ended in me failing to redeem other characters and having to kill them instead (Dustil, and worst of all when I got to the Star Forge, Bastila), which left it feeling like a rather bittersweet victory at best. So I'd be into a take on these two that looked at the cost of victory/the fragility of redemption/etc.
Belaya/Juhani
Very strongly hinted at in canon though whether anything came of it while they were padawans is up to you, given the Jedi's restrictions on love.
Prompts: Long nights under the stars. Reunion after the end of the game (let's assume Belaya survived the bombardment of Dantooine somehow -- maybe she'd been sent on some other mission?). Or (since Belaya turns Dark Side and pops up on Korriban if you kill Juhani), an AU where they both fall together.
Exile/Handmaiden
Handmaiden has a lot of interesting backstory that I would be keen to see explored, between the other sisters considering her lesser, who her real mother might be, and her link to Atris who herself loved Exile.
Prompts: Learning through combat. (Huge theme in the game, could equally apply to the next pairing as well, though it's particularly prominent with Handmaiden.) Handmaiden gradually forming her own view of Exile separate from what Atris had told her. A DS!Exile taking advantage of Handmaiden's loyalty that she's manipulated into existence (i.e. an in-universe take on deliberate use of the influence mechanic to warp Handmaiden's alignment)
Exile/Visas
Visas is fascinating, especially her desperation to protect Exile from having to confront Nihilus once she's fallen in with the Ebon Hawk's crew.
Prompts: Sacrifice. Exploration of how Visas sees the world/teaches Exile to see the world through Force Sight. And this is definitely somewhere the lightsaber crafting could come in, given that Exile destroys Visas's when they first meet; obviously, in game mechanics terms you just equip Visas with another one but there's no reason to think that she didn't craft it. Did Exile help?
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
Doctor Who
(NB For most of the pairings I've requested in this fandom, I would prefer not to receive darker material.)
Zoe/Isobel
I don't know who nominated this, but whoever you are, you're a genius ... They really do share some very femslashy moments in The Invasion. (For what it's worth, I'm willing to wave my hands around a lot when it comes to what Zoe's canonical age may or may not be.)
Prompts: Photography, obviously. Hurt/comfort during the Cyberman crisis. AU where Isobel comes on board the TARDIS.
Leela/Romana
(This is the one DW pairing where I could go for something taking a darker route, with all the Pandora/Imperiatrix/etc. stuff.)
These two really appeal to my love of loyalty kink. I'm keen on all the Gallifreyan politics stuff but also Leela's ability to cut through the pomposity.
Prompts: Visiting AUs where their relationship went differently (I love it when there are canon canon-divergent AUs like the ones in the more recent series, if that makes sense, but you should obviously feel free to make up your own ones too, or send them to the book lines or the very different DWM comics Gallifrey if you're familiar with those). Stranded in a "primitive" environment where Leela's skills are more relevant than Romana's. Or conversely, something happens to Leela (maybe involving the Matrix?) that means Romana has to rescue her.
Nyssa/Tegan
The relationship between these two is horribly underexplored in canon, even by the standards of the time -- their first meeting takes place in the middle of a crowded scene and we don't hear anything they say ... but they're getting along like a house on fire straight afterwards; they both have very personal reasons to despise the Master (especially Nyssa, since he's stolen her father's body and destroyed her entire planet, but murdering Auntie Vanessa must be significant for Tegan too), but every time he turns up during their run they just treat him as a generic recurring villain; almost immediately after they've met him the Doctor regnerates; and so on and so on. As such they definitely have the potential for wallowing in angst (as well as the aforementioned, there's Tegan's experiences with the Mara, and so on and so forth) but their interactions in canon (which generally ignores all those things) definitely lend themselves more towards fun fluffy romance.
Prompts: Helping each other cope with everything that's happened to them. Relaxing in between crises. Fix-it fic for their being parted at the end of Terminus.
Izzy/Destrii
I'm intrigued by these two; they spend a lot of time bodyswapped and then when they swap back basically see into each other's minds, and it seems to me that they should develop a good, almost intimate, understanding of one another. However, at the same time it would be very natural for Izzy to deeply distrust Destrii.
Prompts: Izzy runs into the Doctor and Destrii on one of their adventures; how does she react? Destrii stays behind on Earth and goes looking for Izzy. Detailed exploration of what happened telepathically while their minds were being transferred back into the right bodies.
Jenny/Vastra
These two are fantastic. I like that they both hold their own against the Doctor, and the kinkiness of their relationship is very appealing to me (though don't worry, it's not the only thing that's appealing if that's not the sort of thing you're into).
Prompts: What happened when they got married? (I kind of assume the Doctor took them away to some other time zone for it, but am open to other explanations.) Something introspective about how meeting changed their lives. Pater Noster gang casefic.
Martha/Tosh
It always struck me as a huge wasted opportunity that these two barely interacted at all during Martha's time on Torchwood. They both have a lot in common, it seems to me, on the really-know-their-stuff-but-initially-lacking-in-self-confidence fronts (though obviously they're not quite in the same place on this side of things by the time they meet, with Martha having been through the Year That Never Was and so on).
Prompts: Inter-organisational rivalries (or maybe Martha tries to recruit Tosh for UNIT?). Working late on a case. Use and abuse of alien artifacts.
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
I love this game. I still get shivers every time the first fungus pops and the first interlude from the Book of Planet comes up when I start a playthrough. Anything at all that gets at the sense of the strangeness, difficulty but also beauty of life on a new planet would be very cool
Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye
The "canon" story that comes out in the Datalinks quotes and wonders videos implies a war where the Gaians eventually completely overrun the Spartans with mind worms (and I would definitely be up for darkfic along those lines if the inspiration strikes you -- or the reverse) but each or grand Planet-conquering alliance or something in between.
Prompts: "Symbols are the key to telepathy." Arguments in the planetary council leading to a continued discussion (or "discussion") in private. "Very well, but you must swear a pact to serve me." Conquest victory: spoils of war. Economic victory: counting the cost. Diplomatic victory: embracing the new world leader. Transcendence victory: one last night of being human.
General | Marvel 616 | The Wicked + The Divine | Star Wars | Doctor Who | Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri | Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
Star Trek (Classic Timeline)
This is a fandom where if I could have requested the entire tag set, I would have done, so I deliberately narrowed it down to Deep Space Nine to make choosing manageable. But then at the last minute I realised that I really, really wanted to request Hoshi/T'Pol, so there's a tiny bit of Enterprise sneaking in there.
Hoshi/T'Pol
Hoshi is definitely my fave from the Enterprise cast and was often criminally underused by the series IMO. I really like the idea of her being very competent at one particular thing but initially not very confident about being a space traveller, but growing into being a member of the crew. On the T'Pol side, I'm into all the usual Vulcan shippy tropes: pon farr, taking a very logical approach to relationships, mind melds, etc. etc. (Also, feel free to go Mirror Universe on this ship, if you want, even though it's not the mirror versions in the tag. Empress Hoshi is one of my favourite things.)
Prompts: Cross-cultural interchange. T'Pol helps Hoshi with the development of the universal translator. Dealing with communication difficulties with an alien help them communicate better with each other.
Jadzia/Kira, Ezri/Kira, Ezri/Jadzia
General thoughts and prompts for all three pairings all mushed together (sorry): I love Kira, who I think is one of the best-developed non-Starfleet characters anywhere in Trek: the complexity of her past, the way her relationships with other members of the crew and guest characters and so on evolve over time while still remaining true to the fundamental core of her is really well done. And I am absolutely fascinated with Dax in general, especially the old-young thing she's got going on. All the different versions of Dax seem to have a lot of joie de vivre and openness to new experiences (even Curzon late in his life, from the way they talk about him), in contrast to many common takes on what it would be like to live for a long time. Jadzia and Kira quickly establish a strong bond in canon, which I can easily see a relationship building out of (perhaps more along friends-with-benefits lines, or perhaps not); Ezri/Kira I think has particularly interesting dynamics with the fact that Ezri is but isn't the same Dax Kira knew, the same sort of line that canon took with Worf and Bashir. If you want to do Ezri/Jadzia I'm up for any sort of sci-fi handwave to make it work (I can think of at least three that exist within canon: the holodeck, time travel, and the Trill zhian'tara ritual from "Facets"). If you do go down the Ezri/Jadzia route, I'd definitely be interested in exploration of the fact that Ezri never wanted to be joined.
Kira/Mirror Kira
They both have strong, but very much contrasting, feelings about the existence of their double. However, I do wonder if our universe's Kira is repressing some of her feelings ...
Prompts: Pretending to be each other for whatever reason (one or other of them on a mission into the other universe? or something they cook up between them in some particular situation where they're forced to work together?) A situation where they're trying to outmaneouvre each other -- how well do they really understand each other? Who has the advantage? Mirror Kira forces Kira to take her to the wormhole and they go exploring the Mirror Gamma Quadrant or the wormhole itself. (Are the Dominion even worse, or super-fluffy? Do the Prophets exist outside parallel universes as well as linear time, or is it the Pah Wraiths?)
Mirror Leeta/Mirror Ezri
The chemistry between these two in their very brief encounter in canon is off the charts, IMO.
Prompt: Basically, what happened after the end of "The Emperor's New Cloak"? In any or all of the short, medium or long term. (Feel free to bring Mirror Kira back into the mix to complicate things if you're going for the longer term. She's in a very different position but Ezri might still be somewhat under her spell.)

Absolute DNWs:
- Excessively fluffy fluff (the sort of thing which is just the characters calling each other by pet names for the entire length of the fic and nothing at all actually happens)
- Character bashing
- Pregnancy/kidfic
- Non-canon-divergent AUs (that is, I would prefer not to receive things like coffee shop/high school/etc. mundane AU - canon-divergent AU on the other hand is fine, as noted above)
- Kinks involving bodily fluids not usually associated with sex (scat, watersports, emetophilia, bloodplay, etc.)
- Incest
- Characters under 16 having sex (passing reference to them having been sexually active younger than this is fine if it's in character but please don't portray it "on screen")
- Violent non-con (in dark scenarios, I am OK with things like dubcon because one character is coercing the other or SFnal non-con like mind control)
DNWs in non-dark scenarios:
(I am requesting several fandoms here where a dark take on the canon is a plausible option and would appeal to me, so instead of constantly noting exceptions to DNWs in the individual sections I'm trying to make it a bit more fine-grained by splitting up. - Non-con or dubcon of any kind
- Permanent major character death (unless there's been a time jump sufficient for them to have died of natural causes in the interim, or something like that)
- Infidelity and/or breaking up a canon ship unpleasantly in favour of the pairing (I am equally happy in cases where there are conflicting canon ships with any of: a mild canon-divergent AU where that relationship just didn't happen, an amicable breakup in the backstory, or a poly arrangement; you don't need to specify any of these, my subconscious will happily handwave whatever feels most appropriate as long as you don't outright state that infidelity is going on)

Doctor Who
(NB For most of the pairings I've requested in this fandom, I would prefer not to receive darker material.)

Thanks again for creating something for me; I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
