Femslash After Dark 2021 Letter

Hi, and thanks for writing for me; I hope this letter is helpful if you find letters helpful, but if you prefer to go your own way, I'm very interested to see where that leads too (as long as it isn't into any of my DNWs, obviously). My AO3 name is weakinteraction - same as this dreamwidth.

General likes

I've separated the more specific likes below into smut and dark but please don't take that as meaning that you can't combine the two if you want to. (The individual fandom prompts probably run slightly more towards the smut end of the spectrum, but I'm very happy for a mix of the two as well as focusing on one or the other.)

Likes for Art

I like art that portrays some particular moment, either before, during or after, and implies what's happened/going to happen. (On the "after" side of things, I do like characters looking as though they've very thoroughly enjoyed themselves.) I am particularly fond of characters looking at each other in meaningful ways. I'm also very keen on art portraying the characters in an AU scenario.

Likes for Fic

I am, to be honest, up for almost anything. I'm very happy with all sorts of formats, including first/second person as well as third, present tense as well as past, epistolatory fic, interactive fiction, etc. Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations.

Smut-oriented likes

If you're writing smut, I'm fine with it being as plotty as you like or out-and-out PWP, or anywhere in between. I like characters snatching moments for sex in the middle of adventures, or celebrating at the end of them, or anything else. If you're going down the smutty route, I am very happy with most kinks except for a few exceptions listed in the DNWs below (and things like Force Sex in SW or its equivalents elsewhere are very welcome too; given the nature of these canons, please don't feel restricted to relatively realistic sex). For kinks with a power differential, I have a very slight preference for the sub's point of view, but only a very slight one. In general, I like people having fun while they're having sex; it definitely doesn't have to be all serious all the time. Things going slightly wrong for comic effect is definitely good.

Dark-themes-oriented likes

I love a good apocalypse, characters banding together against the growing awfulness of the world around them or their relationships being frayed by the pressure. I love good (or quite-good) characters going bad (e.g. Jedi turning Dark Side) and dragging the ones they love down with them into a vortex of manipulation and coercion; I'm fine with the other person reacting in various ways to that -- clinging on to the hope that they can redeem their lover; losing their moral compass because they have it focused on the other person rather than the bigger picture, but having occasional moments of horrified clarity; or being fully seduced themselves.

DNWs
  • character or ship bashing (in particular, where there are conflicting canon ships for these characters, quietly ignoring them/AU-ing them away/handwaving everyone as being happily poly are all far preferable to me to devoting large chunks of the fic to demonstrating that the canon love interest is The Worst and breaking them up; I would also prefer it if you avoid characters in the ship comparing themselves to canon love interests, either favourably or unfavourably)
  • non-canon-divergent AUs like coffee shops, A/B/O, etc. (canon-divergent ones, on the other hand, are a big yes as mentioned above, and I'm OK with mundane-style AUs if they do actually exist in canon -- e.g. the Normal Again universe from Buffy)
  • pregnancy/kidfic
  • watersports/scat/emetophilia/bloodplay/breathplay/vore
  • incest
  • underage (which I define as people under 16 having sex)

Also, a couple of clarifications about some things that I usually DNW but I've left off this list:
  • I usually include character death on this list but haven't for for this exchange, as it seems a bit daft to suggest apocalypses/the reign of Evil Empress [X] and then say "but everyone must survive". However, I would prefer not to receive character death in a fic that wasn't deliberately going for being darkfic. (e.g. please don't have the characters in an otherwise fluffy fic get together because they met up again at the funeral of a teammate, or something.)
  • I usually DNW "violent non-con" but I've let the free-forms take care of that for me here - if I've opted in to non-con content, that can be relatively violent, but I still DNW "good" characters being the perpetrators (probably worth saying that, in general, video game characters that are controlled by the player don't have to be good for these purposes ...).

(... having to write out confusing, convoluted things like that is exactly why I usually stick to blanket DNWs.)

KotOR

freeforms: Consensual sexual content, non-con sexual content (though only Dark Siders perpetrating, please), Violent content

General prompts for all of these: DS "AU" (or, y'know, just the DS ending with added shippiness).

Juhani/Revan

"I will be your doom." - threat or promise? Do they end up saving each other from the Dark Side, or falling together? Or is it even worse than that? (I have, in all seriousness, considered doing a playthrough where Revan romances Juhani, but then turns at the Temple roof, but finds that she can't fight Juhani and so leaves herself open to being chopped down, and taking that as being the ending rather than reloading, just because I think it would be a neat way of inverting Juhani's initial introduction.)

Bastila/Revan

What I find interesting about these two is their bond through Bastila having saved Revan's life, and how it pulls them together (against Bastila's better judgement given that she knows who Revan is all along, but also her devotion to Jedi beliefs about love being bad). And of course the mirroring of their arcs, with Bastila eventually going to the Dark Side as Revan did (but then coming back, if you play Light Side and choose the right dialogue options). Jennifer Hale's delivery of "I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice!" is quite something, so anything playing around with Dark Side Bastila (whether or not Revan also goes Dark Side) is very welcome.

Bastila/Juhani/Revan

To be honest, this is basically my default party for most of the game (unless my Revan is particularly short on skills, in which case Mission or T3 comes along), so it has kind of turned into an OT3 of mine by default. There's a lot of different directions you could take this, it seems to me: working through the rough edges of working together during the period covered by canon; LS post-canon based on the idea that they've all been through different redemption arcs; helping each other stay on the Light Side; or as noted above a post-canon DS take with Dark Lord Revan and her concubines. Or indeed anything else that inspires you.

Yuthura Ban/Revan

Yuthura is one of my favourite minor NPCs from the series, I like her combination of ruthlessness and vulnerability; she's clearly had a tough life and adapted to that, but responds to having someone actually interested in her for herself. Feel free to explore her backstory if the fancy takes you. I am very much up for any and all possible takes on the dynamics of this ship: amnesiac Revan as eager student of the Dark Side, post-Leviathan Revan as reborn Sith Lord who Yuthura is the first to swear allegiance to, Revan (with memories or without) redeeming Yuthura (esp. if Yuthura is simultaneously corrupting her), etc. One-off exception to my breathplay DNW here: something building on Yuthura's use of Force Choke is very welcome; it may have been a formative moment for my current Revan. (I am recycling this prompt yet again while still on the slowest playthrough ever - though I did actually play for a couple of hours within the last week so I might have finished it before reveals.)

Exile/Visas

"My life is yours." But has Visas been saved by that, or has she just traded one Dark Lord for another? Visas bits I particularly like are her teaching Force Sight, everything that happens on the Ravager, and the quiet conversation before Malachor. Post-canon adventures (assuming Exile doesn't fulfil Kreia's prophecy of heading out to the Unknown Regions, or at least not immediately, or takes someone with her after all ...) also very welcome.

Classic Who

freeforms: Consensual sexual content

In general, if you want to AU and bring a non-companion on board the TARDIS that's always very welcome for the pairings for which that's relevant. (Also: yes, half of these pairings are drawn from the first 22-and-3/4 years of the show, and then the other half are all Ace/somebody. I do love Ace, but that doesn't mean I love the others less, I promise.)

Zoe/Isobel

They really do share some very femslashy moments in The Invasion, imo. (For what it's worth, I'm willing to wave my hands around a lot when it comes to what Zoe's canonical age may or may not be.) Something based around photography would be an obvious possibility. As would hurt/comfort during the Cyberman crisis. Or maybe an AU where Isobel comes on board the TARDIS.

Romana I/Romana II

To be honest, for this pairing I'm basically imagining them snarking at each other (in the same way the Doctors and Masters do when they meet up) while running around being hypercompetent. But anything else you want to do with them would be great too. (I'm way behind on Big Finish Gallifrey overall but have heard the relevant series, if you want to incorporate anything from that.)

Nyssa/Tegan

The relationship between these two is horribly underexplored in canon, even by the standards of the time -- their first meeting takes place in the middle of a crowded scene and we don't hear anything they say ... but they're getting along like a house on fire straight afterwards; they both have very personal reasons to despise the Master (especially Nyssa, since he's stolen her father's body and destroyed her entire planet, but murdering Auntie Vanessa must be significant for Tegan too), but every time he turns up during their run they just treat him as a generic recurring villain; almost immediately after they've met him the Doctor regnerates; and so on and so on. As such they definitely have the potential for wallowing in angst (as well as the aforementioned, there's Tegan's experiences with the Mara, and so on and so forth) but their interactions in canon (which generally ignores all those things) definitely lend themselves more towards fun fluffy romance.

Mel/Ace

In their brief interaction in Dragonfire, they go very rapidly from antagonistic to friendly; perhaps a missing scene filling in what happened while they were waiting around to change? Otherwise, an AU where Mel doesn't leave when Ace comes on board the TARDIS, or something where they end up meeting up again later on would be great. They've both been caught in parallel universe shenanigans in the off-screen material; something playing around with multiple versions of them would be awesome.

New Who

Thirteen/Bill

I could see this working in terms of post-canon Bill meeting up with the Doctor again, but also a much more angsty pre-canon version where Thirteen visits her before she meets Twelve, maybe on purpose or maybe accidentally ended up at the university and originally intending to stay well away but then being drawn in against her better judgement. Up to you how much she tells Bill.

Thirteen/Yaz

I have to admit to being a latecomer to this ship -- I could claim that it grew on me slowly, but it's more like throughout the two main seasons, I could see it in theory but didn't have strong feelings about it, and then the most recent Christmas special came along and hit me over the head and now I'm shipping it hard. I particularly liked Yaz's obsession with finding the Doctor to the point of sleeping in the other TARDIS, and all the "I'm not ready to give this up yet" type stuff in contrast to Ryan and Graham moving on. Especially her conversation with Jack, that was great. This probably makes it sound like I want something that's all moth-getting-too-close-to-the-flame angsty and I would be up for that, but something much more fun and light would be equally welcome, or anywhere in between.

Clara/TARDIS

I love the complexity of this relationship, especially during Season 7b. The TARDIS inhabiting a projection of Clara,or whoever else, or much weirder stuff, all very welcome. (In general, high weirdness is always very welcome in relation to the TARDIS.) Something exploring the whole echoes business might be quite fun -- Clara jumps into the Doctor's timestream inside the TARDIS after all, and the TARDIS herself was present throughout all those events ...

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I've used two different requests here, basically to separate out Mirrorverse characters from not; I am OK with violence and consent issues in the Mirrorverse that I wouldn't be if it were the Prime characters perpetrating such acts. (I know this is the exact opposite of the way I've handled KotOR.)

first request - freeforms: consensual sexual content

Jadzia/Kira, Ezri/Kira, Ezri/Jadzia

I am fascinated with Dax in general, especially the old-young thing she's got going on. All the different versions of Dax seem to have a lot of joie de vivre and openness to new experiences (even Curzon late in his life, from the way they talk about him), in contrast to many common takes on what it would be like to live for a long time. Jadzia and Kira quickly establish a strong bond in canon, which I can easily see a relationship building out of (perhaps more along friends-with-benefits lines, or perhaps not); Ezri/Kira I think has particularly interesting dynamics with the fact that Ezri is but isn't the same Dax Kira knew, the same sort of line that canon took with Worf and Bashir. If you want to do Ezri/Jadzia I'm up for any sort of sci-fi handwave to make it work (I can think of at least three that exist within canon: the holodeck, time travel, and that Trill ritual from "Facets"). If you do do that one, I'd be interested in exploration of the fact that Ezri never wanted to be joined.

second request - freeforms: consensual sexual content, non-consensual sexual content, violence

Mirror Leeta/Mirror Ezri

What happened after the end of "The Emperor's New Cloak", basically? In any or all of the short, medium or long term. (Feel free to bring Mirror Kira back into the mix to complicate things if you're going for the longer term.)

Mirror Ezri/Mirror Kira

Backstory or in the new status quo after the episode equally welcome. I'm very into the mutually-manoeuvring-around-each-other-for-advantage-while-horny dynamic between the two of them.

Kira/Mirror Kira

Mirror Kira is clearly fascinated by the idea of her double. Does Kira secretly feel the same? Or does she find herself in a situation where she doesn't have much choice but to go along? I would also definitely be up for them pretending to be each other for whatever reason. (One or other of them on a mission into the other universe? Or something they cook up between them in some particular situation?)

Empire Records

freeforms: consensual, other M-E rated content (I've selected this tag as I would be into something that went quite a bit further than canon on the drugs side of things, if you're inclined to create that)

Deb/Gina

I love how snarky they are with each other, and would very much appreciate something with a similar sort of banter-ish. I can see this ship either in terms of them both thinking this is a terrible (possibly alcohol-fuelled?) mistake (maybe one that happens more than one), or a scenario where they soften towards each other a bit over time, though I do imagine that they would still reflexively falling back on their old patterns of snark whenever things get too emotional.

Frozen

freeforms: consensual sexual content

Elsa/OFC

Any sort of OFC you like is fine here: someone from Arendelle, a visitor from further afield, some other magic user (maybe someone who appears to give Elsa advice and guidance on mastering her powers? or who Elsa is mentoring?), one of the Northuldra (in general, I'm very happy for you to use or ignore Frozen II as you see fit). In smut terms, powers-related temperature play very welcome if you're that way inclined, as is the OFC kinking on Elsa being extremely powerful.

Loki (TV)

Disclaimer: I'm writing this between episodes three and four. If later canon turns out to make my prompts nonsensical, I am equally happy with you ignoring the prompts or going AU on the elements introduced later. But then I'm happy with you ignoring

freeforms: consensual sexual content (I'm fine with scenarios where one party has knowledge of timelines or is getting inside the other's head or whatever else such that the consent might be highly dubious from some perspectives)

Edit Jul 19 I've signed up for the B-15 ships here in Fandom Growth as well (letter here), if you want to see some prompts that take into account the whole season. Absolutely no obligation, as stated above, but in case it's helpful I thought I'd put the link in.

Hunter B-15/Hunter C-20

I went from 0-60 on shipping this incredibly quickly, based on the way B-15 was so certain that no Loki Variant could get the jump on C-20. Please do feel free to take this in whatever direction works best for you -- pre-canon development of their relationship (for fic, maybe something a bit mission/caseficcy?), during-canon stuff (they've both had Sylvie messing around in their minds, how do they recover from that?) or some sort of speculative post-canon thing (what if they both go back to one or other of theirs "old lives", given there seem to be a lot of hints that TVA employees aren't really all created from nowhere).

Hunter B-15/Sylvie Laufeydottir

Edit: I'm back after episode 4 with a bit more on this ship. The first paragraph was written after ep 3 and I'm still very much up for that take on the ship if that's what you're interested in, but the second paragraph is written after ep 4 if you want to use those developments.

I would definitely be up for some D/s power struggle elements here. Within the confines of the TVA, B-15 absolutely has the advantage, and also presumably has a certain level of tactical knowledge from previous experience hunting down Loki variants, but on the other hand we've seen what Sylvie can do when she has access to her magic (which I can definitely see B-15 being out for revenge in relation to). At the same time, I can kind of picture Sylvie having a not-altogether-displeased reaction to finding herself temporarily on the losing end of the equation, even while plotting her way out of it.

On the other hand, the way things switch over to her trusting Sylvie as a result of realising that she's telling the truth/the memories were real was absolutely great and if you want to explore that dynamic (maybe B-15 on the run with Sylvie?) that would be fantastic. Mind sex type stuff very welcome too if it fits.

Sylvie Laufeydottir/Other Female Loki Variant

And this is my slightly more out-there prompt. We know there are all sorts of Loki variants -- what if Sylvia met another female one? I am up for all sorts of different overall dynamics here, depending on how they relate to each other and so on, but some sort of mutual snarking would definitely be appreciated.
