Star Wars Rare Pairs 2020 Dear Creator Letter
Hi, thanks for creating for me! I can't wait to see what you come up with ...
My AO3 name is also weakinteraction and I am requesting fic, art or vid for all of the pairings here.
General likes
I am, in general, up for any format, rating, or genre. Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations. If you're going down the smutty route, I am fine with most kinks except for a few exceptions listed in the DNWs below.
In terms of things I like in Star Wars in particular, I am always here for pilots and their ships, lightsabers, galactic politics/diplomacy and weird alien planets (either in-keeping-with-the-films single biome efforts or ones that try to be more "realistic"). I tend to find that I can take or leave the intricacies of the internal bureaucracy of evil organisations (e.g. the Empire/First Order), but I am so here for the Dark Side in terms of fallen Jedi abusing the trust of their former friends and stuff like that so "X goes Dark Side" AUs (or in terms of KotOR, taking the Dark Side ending) are very welcome. If you're going down the smutty route, any and all types of Force Sex are good with me.
(If you go browsing through my other letters, you might see I often mention time travel in this section; weirdly, I'm not really that keen on it for Star Wars.)
General likes for art
I do like use of light and shade in a picture, and interesting Easter-egg-y type stuff going on in the background (if there is one). I am also up for reinterpretations into different art styles (e.g. chibi versions of the characters, or what they'd look like if they were in a retro computer game, that sort of thing).
General art prompts: An action scene that's a snapshot from an adventure, the characters in the middle of kicking ass. (Two characters back to back with their lightsabers/blasters out, for instance.) Goofy hijinks when they're off-duty. Little moments of intimacy: stolen kisses, hurt/comfort type stuff (but please not too much on the hurt front), that sort of thing. And, er, I have no problem at all with NSFW art.
General likes for fic
Overall, I am honestly very easy to please; I genuinely like pretty much all types of fic, from humorous vignettes, to angsty introspection, to twisty plotty adventure stories, and all points in between. I do like to make a positive point of the fact that fic-wise I'm always up for non-standard formats, anything from epistolatory or verse through to stories presented through documentary evidence, 1st/2nd person, present/future tense, IF, etc. etc. Again, if it works for what you want to do, I'll lap it up. (This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading third person, past tense, because I definitely do! I just don't want you to be put off doing other things if your inspiration takes you in that direction.)
General fic prompts: Being guided by the Force in a way that isn't quite what they expected. Getting to know each other better while on a mission/escaping from prison/etc. Down time in an exotic environment. Hurt/comfort. Helping each other to be strong.
General likes for vids
When it comes to vids I like interesting/surprising/amusing juxtapositions (either between one scene and the next or between what's happening and the music), and having fun with pacing (e.g. the cuts getting faster and faster towards the end before slowing down again). I am very broad-minded in my musical taste; I would much rather go with the music you think fits than have a vid shoehorned in to my favourite song if you're not feeling it. And to be honest, my "favourite song" is something which changes on about an hourly basis. That said, if you do want to know, the two places my music collection/Youtube playlist gravitates towards most strongly are British indie circa 1995-1997 (I hesitate to use the term "Britpop" but, yeah, basically Britpop) and female singer-songwriters from the last decade or so.
General vid prompts: Action (a pairing against the universe? lovers-to-enemies types doing battle?). Longing looks. Sweeping landscapes. Star Wars-y wipe transitions.
Do Not Wants
(I'll freely admit that there's some heavy recycling going on in the sections below! But one of my faves got new canon this year, and I'm currently on the slowest ever KotOR playthrough [started on Star Wars Day 2019, average hours played per month = 2] so I got a few bits of new inspiration there ...)
Aphra section
Aphra rapidly became my new Star Wars fave when I belatedly started reading the Darth Vader comics. I love how spiky she is, her hidden depths, her ability to bullshit her way through pretty much any situation, and her reluctant moments of something approaching morality. I think it might be worth a quick clarification here re: my "ship bashing" DNW -- Aphra's relationships being enormous hot messes and the narrative acknowledging that would not be included in this.
Aphra/Tolvan
The canon enemies-to-lovers-to-tragedy trajectory of this ship was extremely pleasing to me, so anything that builds on any stage of that cycle would be fantastic. My fave things about Tolvan are how ambiguous she seems to feel about almost everything (the Empire, Aphra, her cybernetics, the Republic) and the fact that she's quietly a tactical genius.
Some prompts: Reluctant-to-not-so-reluctant team-up. One or other of them getting the upper hand (Tolvan blackmailing and/or capturing Aphra seems like a fairly obvious option, but I think Aphra's work with Vader must have given her some sort of insight into how to mess around with the Imperial hierarchy). Ending up on the run together. Do they meet back up again after RotJ? Some further exploration of Tolvan's backstory would be great too (especially why she has all those cybernetics, and I also love that she's a tactical genius; any sort of situation where she's using those skills would be fun).
Aphra/Sana
Give me them at each other's throats (in any sense). Give me them forced to work together and hating every minute of it. Give me backstory: their good times that were never really that good (or were they?). Give me bitterness and resentment and angst and betrayal and unhealthiness and obsession and all that good stuff.
Prompts: Aphra trying to puzzle out why Sana seems to have thrown her lot in with the Rebels. Sana realising that her feelings are more complicated than she wants to admit. Aphra trying to keep Sana secret from Vader (and maybe failing). Wagers and forfeits. Or if you're going into their backstory, any sort of smuggling/archaeological hijinks. (Aphra going playing in Legends worldbuilding is A-OK with me.) Were they always so hardbitten and cynical?
Aphra/Eustacia
Very happy for this to be set either in their student days or in the present, or some earlier encounter. (On an archaeological dig together fic with lashings of GFFA worldbuilding very much welcome.)
Prompts: competitiveness; double crosses; making the big mistake of trying to recapture the good old days that weren't that good to start with.
KotOR section
General prompts for all of these: DS "AU" (or, y'know, just the DS ending with added shippiness).
Juhani/f!Revan
"I will be your doom." - threat or promise? Do they end up saving each other from the Dark Side, or falling together? Or is it even worse than that? (I have, in all seriousness, considered doing a playthrough where Revan romances Juhani, but then turns at the Temple roof, but finds that she can't fight Juhani and so leaves herself open to being chopped down, and taking that as being the ending rather than reloading, just because I think it would be a neat way of inverting Juhani's initial introduction.)
Prompts: the Jedi code; "it was you"; post-canon adventures that may or may not also be about working through angst; DS AU where Juhani is Revan's Dragon, feared throughout the galaxy.
Bastila/f!Revan
What I find interesting about these two is their bond through Bastila having saved Revan's life, and how it pulls them together (against Bastila's better judgement given that she knows who Revan is all along, but also her devotion to Jedi beliefs about love being bad). And of course the mirroring of their arcs, with Bastila eventually going to the Dark Side as Revan did (but then coming back, if you play Light Side and choose the right dialogue options). Jennifer Hale's delivery of "I would stand by your side gladly, as your lover and apprentice!" is quite something, so anything playing around with Dark Side Bastila (whether or not Revan also goes Dark Side) is very welcome.
Prompts: training (lightsabers and/or the Force); visions; Bastila struggling with the layers of deception involved; Revan trying to understand everything between the Leviathan and the Star Forge.
Bastila/Juhani/f!Revan
To be honest, this is basically my default party for most of the game (unless my Revan is particularly short on skills, in which case Mission or T3 comes along), so it has kind of turned into an OT3 of mine by default.
Prompts: working through the rough edges of working together during the period covered by canon; LS post-canon based on the idea that they've all been through different redemption arcs; helping each other stay on the Light Side; or a DS take with Dark Lord Revan and her concubines. Or indeed anything else that inspires you.
Yuthura Ban/f!Revan
I love Yuthura, and wish there was a lot more of her in the game. Feel free to explore her backstory if the fancy takes you. I am very much up for any and all possible takes on the dynamics of this ship: amnesiac Revan as eager student of the Dark Side, post-Leviathan Revan as reborn Sith Lord who Yuthura is the first to swear allegiance to, Revan (with memories or without) redeeming Yuthura (even better if Yuthura is simultaneously trying to corrupt Revan), etc. One-off exception to my breathplay DNW here: something building on Yuthura's use of Force Choke is very welcome; it may have been a formative moment for my current Revan.
Prompts: Redemption. Fall. Treachery and double crossing. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Revan trying to redeem Yuthura while Yuthura tries to corrupt Revan. Amnesiac Revan going to the Sith Academy on Korriban straight after the Jedi Academy on Dantooine to decide for herself who's got the right idea. Revan going to Korriban after the Leviathan (and no one believing her; I find that hilarious even if it was obviously to avoid them having to write huge amounts of new material).
f!Exile/Visas
Visas bits I particularly like are her teaching Force Sight, everything that happens on the Ravager, and the quiet conversation before Malachor.
Prompts: "My life is yours." But has Visas been saved by that, or has she just traded one Dark Lord for another? Post-canon adventures (assuming Exile doesn't fulfil Kreia's prophecy of heading out to the Unknown Regions, or at least not immediately, or takes someone with her after all ...) also very welcome.
