Fandom Growth Exchange 2018 Dear Creator Letter
Hi! Thanks for creating for me. If anything, I'm even more excited about this round than either of the previous ones; watching the tag set grow has been very exciting.
My username is weakinteraction on AO3 as well, and I'm requesting both fic and art for all these fandoms.
General likes
I am up for a wide range of types of fanworks, and equally happy with ratings anywhere on the scale.
I genuinely do equally like all of gen, slash, het and femslash. On the shipping side of things, I don't really have NOTPs in any of these fandoms, so any combination of characters that you're interested in is absolutely fine with me if we matched on a single character or a worldbuilding tag, or as a background pairing in a work for a relationship tag we matched on. (In general, I am more than happy to handwave that Everyone Is Bi And Poly for the purposes of fanworks.)
Tropes-wise, I am particularly fond of time travel, canon-divergent AUs, people with issues relating to identity (in the sense of things like secret identities and amnesia) and telepathy. In terms of relationship dynamics, I like all sorts of things but particularly: friends-to-lovers, friends-with-benefits, enemies-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies(-who-are-maybe-occasionally-still-lovers-against-their-better-judgement), loyalty kink, and you-and-me-against-the-universe sorts of situations. Many (but not quite all) of my favourite characters share traits of being competent and getting on with their jobs/vocations/whatever, particularly in the sense of Doing The Right Thing over their strong personal preferences to do the opposite and/or against a general angsty background.
Fic likes: Overall, I am honestly very easy to please; I genuinely like pretty much all types of fic, from humorous vignettes, to angsty introspection, to twisty plotty adventure stories, casefic, slice of life, or digging into the canon's worldbuilding, and all points in between. I do want to make a positive point of the fact that fic-wise I'm always up for non-standard formats, anything from epistolatory or verse through to stories presented through documentary evidence, 1st/2nd person, present/future tense, IF, etc. etc. Again, if it works for what you want to do, I'll lap it up. (This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading third person, past tense, because I definitely do! I just don't want you to be put off doing other things if your inspiration takes you in that direction.)
Art likes: I do like use of light and shade in a picture, and interesting Easter-egg-y type stuff going on in the background (if there is one). An action scene that's a snapshot from an adventure, the characters in the middle of kicking ass. Goofy hijinks when the characters are off-duty. Portrayals of canon-divergent AU versions of the characters very, very welcome if the inspiration strikes you (eg: the 16 Ways team in some sort of post-apocalyptic scenario, Aphra and Sana facing off with lightsabers in Jedi training, Squirrel Girl: Agent of SHIELD and her handler Nancy, etc.). For shippier stuff, little moments of intimacy: stolen kisses, hurt/comfort type stuff (but please not too much on the hurt front), that sort of thing. (I have no problem receiving NSFW art, fwiw.) I am also definitely up for things like diagrams, maps, etc. In the same Easter-egg-y vein mentioned earlier, things like that presented with in-universe trappings (e.g. something for TNG having an LCARS interface around it) would be lovely. I've provided some specific art prompts where I can think of them, but in cases where I haven't I hope at least some of my more general prompts lend themselves to being illustrated.
DNWs
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye
General note: I am extremely agnostic about Alien Crossfire; feel free to do any of ignore it, incorporate it, or borrow some elements from it while ignoring others completely.
I love this game. I still get shivers every time the first fungus pops and the first interlude from the Book of Planet comes up when I start a playthrough. Anything at all that gets at the sense of the strangeness, difficulty but also beauty of life on a new planet would be very cool.
The "canon" story that comes out in the Datalinks quotes and wonders videos implies a war where the Gaians eventually completely overrun the Spartans with mind worms, and I would definitely be up for darkfic along those lines if the inspiration strikes you. In general, the screaming pain sphere thing that captured leaders get put in when you defeat a faction and all the "swear a pact to serve me" stuff if you let them capitulate has quite strong BDSM-y overtones to me.
Prompts: "Symbols are the key to telepathy." Arguments in the planetary council leading to a continued discussion (or "discussion") in private. "Very well, but you must swear a pact to serve me." Conquest victory: spoils of war. Economic victory: counting the cost. Diplomatic victory: embracing the new world leader. Transcendence victory: one last night of being human.
Star Wars (Marvel Comics)
Chelli Lona Aphra/Magna Tolvan
Aphra rapidly became my new Star Wars fave when I belatedly started reading the Darth Vader comics. I love how spiky she is, her hidden depths, her ability to bullshit her way through pretty much any situation, and her reluctant moments of something approaching morality. Her canon enemies-to-lovers trajectory with Tolvan has been extremely pleasing to me, so anything that builds on that would be fantastic. My fave things about Tolvan are how ambiguous she seems to feel about almost everything (the Empire, Aphra, her cybernetics) and the fact that she's quietly a tactical genius.
Prompts: Filling in the canonical "two days later" from the end of #19. Reluctant-to-not-so-reluctant team-up; one or other of them getting the upper hand but then not being quite sure what to do with that. Ending up on the run from the Empire together; how they adjust after the fall of the Empire in ROTJ. Tolvan backstory.
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
(no specific characters or ships - just the fandom as a whole)
I'm fine with something set entirely in the show-within-the-show, entirely in the "behind the scenes" point of view, or mixing the two as the show itself does.
I would love anything at all here, gen or shippy -- on the shippy front, I could easily buy into any combination of the characters. Cracky horror in the vein of the show itself would be great, but I'd also be up for something quieter -- what happens in Darkplace hospital when there isn't an eldritch horror from beyond mankind's ability to understand on the loose? -- or a behind-the-scenes story. What happens if something (seemingly/actually) supernatural happens during filming?
Probably worth saying that this is a fandom where I'd definitely be up for a bit of formal experimentation if you are. Write in Garth's style! Or do a piece from one of those '90s cult magazines about this lost horror classic. Or something that matches the show, interleaving the story with the reminiscences of the participants in its creation.
Disney Fairies
Tink/Vidia
I see this very much in a rivals-to-lovers-to-friends way, if that makes sense; I can readily imagine them repeatedly hooking up when sparks fly and then gradually mellowing out towards each other as a result. (In canon, I think there's a definite transition in their relationship in Great Fairy Rescue.) Snark is definitely a bonus here.
Fawn/Nyx
These two similarly have an initially adversarial relationship, though in their case much more to do with having different opinions on the right thing to do rather than the sort of snark that characterises Tink/Vidia. I imagine these two in terms of Nyx being extremely apologetic after the events of Neverbeast, and Fawn grieving for the fact that she'll never see Gruff again, but Nyx is somehow easier to talk to about it than her friends.
Some prompts that could work for either ship: A visit to the Mainland. Dealing with yet another crisis in Pixie Hollow. Relaxing in Sunflower Meadow or somewhere. The use and abuse of Pixie Dust (feel free to have Zarina involved inventing brand new types; I like her, I just don't ship her with anyone particularly).
Confident - Demi Lovato (Music Video)
Demi Lovato's Character/Michelle Rodriguez' Character
This video (and the basically single-entendre lyrics) just speaks to my id in a very major way (I may have imprinted on the "fight then team up" trope thanks to comics, but if you want to stop at "fight then get together" that's fine too).
Prompts: What either/both of them are thinking during the events of the video. What happens next (in either the short or long term)? Backstory and worldbuilding stuff about whoever's setting them up and the dystopian aspects of the setting and whatever all these barcodes are about and so on.
Revelation Space Series - Alastair Reynolds
Ana Khouri/Ilia Volyova
I really like all the layers of complication between them, and yet the mutual respect that underpins their relationship even when they're at daggers drawn.
Prompts: There's definite potential in all the training to do with the cache weapons, the shifting power balance between them as events happen throughout the story, and also the factors to do with being on the Nostalgia for Infinity together; the "office politics" for want of a better word within the small crew, the sense of having to rely on each other on some level because they're only one misstep from complete disaster.
Ready for It - Taylor Swift (Music Video)
Caged Cyborg/Hooded Cyborg
I'm very much open to worldbuilding in general about the cyborg dystopia implied in the video, but some sort of exploration of this or some other encounter between the two Taylors very welcome. I really love the way everything transforms when it gets to the "in the middle of the night, in my dreams ..." bits.
Prompts: Why is the naked one in the cage? Are they on opposing sides of some conflict? Is this some sort of upgrade? Do they share some sort of computerised dreams? What happens next. Backstory about how they came to exist. Use and abuse of shapeshifting powers.

DNWs
- character or ship bashing (in particular, where there are conflicting canon ships for these characters, quietly ignoring them/AU-ing them away/handwaving everyone as being happily poly are all far preferable to me to devoting large chunks of the fic to demonstrating that the canon love interest is The Worst and breaking them up)
- non-canon-divergent AUs like coffee shops, A/B/O, etc. (canon-divergent ones, on the other hand, are a big yes as mentioned above)
- pregnancy/kidfic
- watersports/scat/emetophilia/bloodplay/breathplay/vore
- violent non-con (coercion/mind control/etc. are fine)
- incest
- underage (which I define as people under 16 having sex)
